If they are in bad shape it would be a very good idea . If they are in good shape and capped off correctly you don't need to but not a bad idea any way . Just be sure they won't be needed in the future . Do you know what they were for ? Are they above or below the water line ? On my F36 (conv) 2 of them one up at the bow and one at the stern are drains for the hull those should stay .

There were 4 for the old engines, and 4 for the old heads. I am getting all of them filled. Changing out to fresh water flush.
I am leaving 2 that were for the generator. The old 1 crapped out, so they are just capped off.

Hey and welcome to the club! She sure is a beauty! I am really looking forward to more pictures and more details! Some owners on here with tons of knowledge. I would love a hard top on my tri fly and I am also looking into diesels (still in the air on that one lol) You said 8 knts? Did the previous owner mention fuel consumption at that speed?

They took it about 100 miles when it was purchased, and said the gauges barely moved. I am planning on putting a maretron fuel monitor on.
It is back from the boat yard, but I am out of town for a month, so have to wait to take it out.
I had them replace 1 head with a new electric going into a holding tank.
The total on the hull was $10,000, and the mechanic was another $8000.
He said there had not been much maintenance done, but they were still in great shape.
I just doubled the purchase price....Lol
The good news is that I just have the interior to do, and I know a guy that used to do it for a living.
The mechanic said that new motors would be $35,000 each plus install, so I think you would be close to $100k by the time you were done.
Mine were installed 22 years ago, and I could get another 2000 hrs out of them.

WOW that's a lot of gas money for my 454's LOL Even doing all the work myself it seems the swap to diesels will not be worth it for the 5 years we want to cruise.

Does anyone know how much dinghy weight a lift on the transom will support?
I would like to get a 11 foot Rendova, or something with a center console, but I think it would be over 400 pounds with the motor.
I don't have a better pic than the one in the first post, sorry

I will check that, but was more concerned with the transom itself

On my '85 tri, I keep a 10' Apex RIB with a 15 hp yamaha and seawise davit. I forget the weights now, but you can look them up just as fast as I can.

It's not the transom that I'd worry about, it's the platform support. I beefed mine up with 4 pcs of 2 x 1/4 stainless under the platform, new diagonal supports, and two pieces about a foot long of 1/4" x 2" stainless curved to match the hull on the outside, where the 4 new diagonals meet the hull down low. I will eventually post pics.
I needed a less expensive hobby, so I bought a boat!

That would depend on how it is mounted . Done poorly you be luck to pick up a hundred pounds . Done right its a different story 4-500+ pounds would be no issue at all . How the load is spread and how the mounts a backed all factor in . Sorry I can't give you a better answer but I want to be honest about it . This comes from a guy that has no issue with cutting holes and doors in his transom LOL .

If you can post some good photos I could give you some better inputs .
