Boat Leaking - Help

Post by ccpower »

I have a GREAT 11 Meter for the past 17 years. over the past few years it started to leak in both the bathroom and the forward cabin. it is coming through the wall up front and getting the bed wet with mold. Continues to get worse. The only thing that I can think of is the window seals are leaking and letting water in.

over the past few years:
1) pulled and re-seat stanchions
2) calked windshield where it meets the hull
3) replaced rub rail calked.
4) gasket on hatch - was new - but could use a new one. There is no real seam there so I didn't think it was from this location.

I have a IR camera that I plan on looking for the leak.
WHAT a pain.
This boat may be for sale also. It has NEW Yanmar diesel engines .. 480 HP! always freshwater.
Thanks

Is this the express cruiser? Have you checked the anchor rode locker for a plugged drain, and or hole to the bed area? The only other access point would be the rail stancions with a leaky mounting screw or more.

Jimmy... same boat 1988 Express 11 meter
you know I had calked the bottom of the windscreen where it meets the haul / deck - but there were two areas that might need some caulk in talking with my buddy who has a Trojan

1) the bottom of the windscreen where the wires run. there is a black plastic piece that shrinks and does not seal very well.
2) the gaskets on the windshield itself is shrinking. He used some black caulk in the corners and where the gasket had shrunk.

have you sealed your windshield in those places?
Thanks

Don't forget to check the cleats as well! I just found a HUGE water leak and traced it back to a cleat about 6 feet away from where i found water in my aft cabin.

Yes, i replaced all my window seals. I also posted it on the same thread mentioned above. Hot welded the seams same as OEM. Zero leaks.

What do you mean by windscreen? Up by the helm?

If your leaks are from rain, it has to be coming from cleats, rail stancions, pulpit fasteners or rode locker. I'd sit down where the bed gets wet and have someone drench the deck. You will find it.

Ours is bone dry..... For now.
