Prowlersfish Pettit Horizons does not contain any BIOLUX slime fighter like Interlux paint does, just an FYI.
Correct it just a good paint IMO , Pettit has "slime resistant Irgarol" in there Ultima SR-60 and Ultima SR-40 and may have it in others . both Biolux and Irgarol are trade names .

my boat was soda blasted down to the gel - so i need barrier coat? Any recommendations for that type of paint? I will buy 1 gallon of black bottom paint and get two coats out of it, but a silly question...how do you guys stir or shake the bottom paint? I have done this 3 times on smaller boats and i start out with it so liquid it runs down my hands then so thick a need a spatula to put it on.
Thanks

Have them shake it before you leave the store . and head to the boat . Manny marinas have shakers also but you may need to buy the paint from them . I use a drill stir at the boat to keep it stirred up .

agreed! you can also find an automotive paint store like sherwin williams or BASF and purchase an agitator, its just a lid with a handle to carry but has a stir system you can do by hand or put a drill on it. reusable to, they are about 15$

Even if you do stir get it shaken first that bottom paint is not like any other paint . with 40-60% copper its some thick stuff . And it wears really well on leather , Got some on my truck seat 3 years ago and its still there were I sit .

yikes! you ever try thinner carefully on the leather? it likes to discolor it but if it worked it would look better. Does west marine have a shaker, ive never noticed one or seen it used

I keep it there as a reminder of being a dumb a-- . Just like the bottom paint on my old cars fender , Never ask her to help paint again . I wonder to this day if it was really a accident and that was 4 boats ago
The shaker is in the back room at my store , You have to ask . I bet the VB store has one too ,

HAHAHAHA now that was funny!!! Im not surprised about having to ask. these guys arent very motovated around here, I use great neck when im at the marina. and vb blvd when im home. Chris at VB Blvb is great but still. Luckly I have a shaker at home and at work, Pretty sad I used to do so much side work i needed a mixing machine, shaker and digital scales at the house. Thank god thats over, talk about a hateful second half!

I am using Micron CSC in fresh water (great lakes). Took me a crap load of work to switch from the old bottom paint (whatever it was - house paint I think) to CSC with having to strip/scrape/sand down to bare glass, then applying 4 coats of CSC. That was 4 or 5 years ago.
Since then, 20 minutes every spring to touch up the thin spots, working off the same left over paint from the original application years ago.
This year I am going to give it 2 coats to top the whole bottom up. About 4 hours to apply each coat (if I remember right); buying the paint on sale for ONLY $190/gallon!!
Hey -- there you go !! In comparison, fuel is cheap !!

$190 a gallon?
Yeah, forgive me if I don't give a high five on that one!!!!!
I am just hoping the blue paint leaves my finger nails before I have to paint the bottom again in the next 3 to 4 years!!!!
See I am half polish, and I learned, you paint it - drive it around lake michigan for 4 years - take it out scrape it and your down to fiberglass - who needs soda blasting - you let the water do the work!!!!!

i dont mind paying 150-200$ for 2-4 year service material as much as i mind paying 160$ for west system resin per gallon or going to the local grocery store anymore. On these boats it seems alot of bottom to paint, 200$ isnt all that bad to me. darn auto clearcoat is up around 400$ now.

Just bought these for my F30. Talkes to an old salt who uses it on his Gibson houseboat that he keeps in the water year round in Middle River. Says he gets 3 seasons out of it.

They just got done with mine and I used Pettit Hydrocoat. Used 4 gallons @ $205/gallon.
Got done with complete bottom re-work. Gonna post pics as soon as I upload them.
