I follow along.... been busy with work and life.... still have my Trojan hanging up in the lift behind the house even though I have a starter down......

Hey all! I've been out for a while. I just finish my fall semester of classes, I plan to use my winter break to work on the Trojan. I'll put pictures up of everything that I do!

Still around.

During a nice trip around Manhattan this past summer the port motor dropped a valve....

Had a Detroit guy take a peak, did not look good.

Both motors have high hours very tired, so the boat stayed at the dock for the rest of the season this year.

So I am saving the funds but now I just don't know what direct to go in.

Do I rebuild both detroits as well as replace the old capital gears or do I save a little more $ and go for the cummins diamond series factory rebuilds...

I will probably lose most of next season to have enough $ for the cummins.

The detroits can probably be ready in the spring.

I am leaning towards waiting for the cummins...

You are not going to go wrong either way. Paul would vote 6bta's, I would vote 6-71's or 8v53's. We'd all be happy with any of those. (Except maybe the 8v53's which should probably be left for rabid DD fans.)

Nope Wrong the B series would be a poor choice . I would stay with the 671 or go with Cummins C engines ( 450 6cta) ( or (QSC) or even the QSM both are better on fuel then a detroit . But the 671 is a good engine its only a 1500-2000 hour engine at 450 hp . Of course thats 15 - 20 years for a average boater .

Repowering with a 8v53 ? thats going backwards imo , as noisey as a 671 is a 53 anything is even worse , and not as good IMO

MY boat ? I would redo the 671 unless I was going to keep the boat over 5 years and put a lot of hours on .

Well its a little small for 8v92's!!

8v53's aren't as bad as you might think. Loud for sure, but some folks are comforted by noises like that. They have torque up the wazoo, and accept parts from most of the other 53 series.

Personally I agree, rebuild the 6-71's.

Now we need a thread split instead of a new topic.

still silently watching as well, winter SUCKS !!! brother helped shrinkwrap the f26 and made out ok with it , materials /labor ran me $250.00
havent done much since its been wrapped, still go in once ina while and do the dreaming thing when weather permits .

+1 I keep hoping the temps are above 50F on the weekend so I can go inside the shrink wrap and work inside the cabin. April will not come soon enough!

I am still in recovery after getting smooshed. I should be back to 955 by July according to the Dr.s.

Boat is on the hard, winterized, and we are gonna pull the trigger on a genny this spring.

I'm still here. "Hugger II" is all buttoned up for the winter. Need to take the old, damaged bimini top to the upholstery guy and have him make us a new one. Put new spark plug wires on one of the engines recently. Other than that, haven't done a whole lot with her.
Looking forward to Spring and more boating fun!
