Anyone ever replace a windshield pane on an F-32 ??

Post by jav »

Went to the marina to see how they were doing on launch dates. Entered the boat to check on things only find that one of my sheild panels of glass has been cracked.

looks like I have another spring project...anyone ever replace one of these? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A couple of years ago I had someone do mine for me. The trim around the edge of the window has an 'F' profile; what you are seeing when you look at the windshield from outside is the long 'vertical' part of the F. From inside the boat you will see several screws through the frame. The screws go through the main frame, and into the channel between the two legs of the F... Also, there is probably sealer around all sides of the trim.

So you have to remove the screws; cut/remove the sealer beside the trim, between the trim and the window glass, and any other you can cut through; GENTLY pull the trim (don't break it - it wasn't able to find any equivalent for replacement without custom made, and MarineTech has no more); then pull the glass out the front.

I have a diagram in powerpoint format that I could send you if interested - I am new to using the forum and I don't know of any way to attach the diagram to this post. If you want it, send me a "pm" with your email address.

Captain,

thanks a bunch for helping. I would be very interested in your diagram.. you descirbed it great but then I lost you when you said you pull the glass out the front. If you remove the trim inside, wouldn't the glass drop down into the boat?

perhaps the diagram will help... please email it to javiveiros(at)hotmail.com.

BTW- welcome to the forum and I visit your neck of the woods every year having family in Stoney Creek, Hamilton, Missisauga, Oakville and Guelf.

Thanks again.

Jav, the glass comes out from the top. Inside the boat, you'll see screw heads, counter-sunk. They go through and into the channels on the outside, holding the channels tight to the glass. Remove these, carefully pry the frame channels off from the OUTSIDE, (they may have sealant holding them in place as well) then cut the bedding around the perimiter of the glass and remove the glass.

I'd have a glass man do it as they will know best how to remove as efficiently as possible...

Good luck!
