This is how I was taught to seal a Trojan flush deck hatch.
1. Remove old gasket clean gasket surface with denatured Alcohol
2. Install new Trojan International non porous foam gasket.
Have the two end of the gasket meet at the top of the hatch and super glue together.
Check that the gasket is fully attached to the fiberglass.
3. Check for areas were the hatch is not compressing the gasket.
You do this by laying strip of paper on the gasket. Then close and dog the lid. Pull the paper through to inside.
We’re the paper pull through easy the hatch is not dog tight in that area.
4. To get the hatch to dog down tighter you remove the S/S dog and bend it so it will dog tighter then installed back on hatch lid.
* do not try to bend dog will attached to Plexieglass.
5. Keep doing paper test till hatch is making full contact with gasket all around.
