AC Fuel gauges new tanks

I replaced my galvanized fuel tanks with two Moeller poly tanks. When I hooked up my sender to the gauges they show full. So I removed the resistor from the back of the gauges thinking that would help. Now the engines won’t start and it pops the breaker on the dash. Do I need new gauges? Everything is wired properly and senders both give a range of 33-240 ohms? Any help?

Sounds like you may have hooked the gauge power wire to ground or some how caused a short there . Are senders the ones you had or new with the tank ?

When I put new moeller tanks in the same year f32, the old AC gauges would not work, had to get new ones.....the resistance range was off....did you connect the new senders at the termination block in the side panel ? Mike

Thanks for the replies guys. I did run the ground wire all the way to the termination block in the bottom of the gauge cluster in the dash. I ordered two new gauges and will install them this weekend and let you know. I suspected as much that the resistance range would not work with the new senders that came with the new tanks. Hopefully this solves the problem and I will have trouble free summer as far as fuel delivery goes. Now if I can keep it from snowing here in Michigan that would be great.

We can try and help you with the boat but help with snow is beyond what we can do .

Well I installed two new fuel gauges (sierra heavy duty ) and they work great. If anyone needs two new AC Delco fuel gauges for their Trojan, let me know. I have two and they work great. Just didn't work with my new fuel tank sender unit.
