Hi all!
Had this boat for seven years and LOVE her! 650 hours then, 1500 now on original 318 225hp reverse rotation Chrysler. Distributor rotor was sticky due to rusty advance mechanism.. lubed it up and rotor snaps back as it should..lube it each year and it seems good. Issue is it will misfire very briefly for a second at 800-1200 rpms occasionally. Maybe once in ten mins, or once an hour, or once an outing, not consistent. This is after new cap/rotor/plugs/wires. Also, about 30-40 engine hours after cap/rotor replace, it begins misfiring more often, and for a second or longer. If I then replace cap/rotor with new, I’m good for another 30-40 hours with the light/very random misfire. Yes, I keep a couple new caps/rotors on board, and I can swap in a few minutes😎.
This ignition is original electronic. I’d like to replace the distributor itself, since centrifugal advance mechanism is rusty and it’s eating caps/rotors. I’m looking for suggestions on what to replace it with.. w/correct timing curve etc. And is there anything special distributor-wise about reverse rotation engines?
Been lurking this forum for awhile, and everyone seems very helpful and knowledgeable.. and I see lots of posts w/Chrysler LM318’s. Looking for a lower budget solution to get rid of the occasional farts, and just cruise smooth at 7.2 mph on Lk Minnetonka. Thanks!
