Replacing gas tanks

Post by TADTOOMUCH »

Are you asking about the Aft tanks or saddle tanks on the F-32

Removal of the Aft tanks is not too bad because you can remove the back deck in one piece. Where were yours leaking?

The replacements can be either aluminum or plastic. Cost is about the same at about $400 each tank. Then you have about $100 each probably for hoses for supply and vent along with whatever it takes to go from the tank to the fuel filters. You will want to replace at least the tanks, fill hose, vent hose and fuel supply hose from the tank to the filters. May even want to replace the line from the filter to the fuel pump and from the fuel pump to the carb at this point just to eliminate all possible problems while you are doing the fuel system work.

All in all if you do all the work yourself you are looking at about $1,200 bucks total at a minimum.

tank removal

Post by TADTOOMUCH »

You don't have to cut anything out. Your back deck should come up in one big piece that is screwed down in several places. You will have to un-bolt the flybridge ladder and remove all the screws holding down the back deck and remove the back hatch. The back deck should lift out from under the ladder and then up exposing the tanks. Getting the galvanized pipes and hoses disconnected will be a pain but shouldn't be too bad with the proper tools. Not sure how heavy the tanks are when empty.
