Wood finish examples (part 2)

Post by captainmaniac »

**UPDATED this old post from 2010 to embed the pictures in the post itself, instead of Photobucket links.

Wood Finish examples (part 1) is here https://www.trojanboats.net/wforum/view ... f=1&t=3206

There were a few threads in the past re wood refinishing options - Varnish, Cetol, Cetol light, etc... so though I would post a few pics now that I have some of my winter/spring jobs done. I am also lazy, so instead of finding the old posts and reviving them, I am just gonna start a new one.

Here are more pics of some samples.... All wood is teak unless otherwise stated.

  • About 7 coats previosly applied lasted about 3 years without problems. Saw some cracking in it last fall so decided to give it light to medium sanding and just finished applying 5 fresh coats. I will give it a week to cure fully before I reinstall the railings.

Varnish-like - Epifanes Wood Finish Gloss - Wheel

  • I don't think this is a true varnish (no sanding required between coats !!!!) - more like a varathane. 6 coats applied about 2 years ago, no maintenance will be needed for a looong time. Incidentally, the wheel was rescued from my father's old 1969 28' Sea Skiff, and looks right at home on my F32 (aside from the custom hub adapter I had to design and have made).
