LM360 Engine Removal

Post by georgepet »

Has anyone lifted / removed LM360 engines from their F32's and passed them through the salon door....and specifically does anyone have photo's available

In an argument with my Marina, who says the engines won't fit through the door opening but based on some old photo's I recall in the forum, this is doable - though I don't recall if the photo's I saw were 318's.

Want to do a remanufacture, marina is pushing for a repower with new engines (which makes some sense). Alas, my boat is now on the US side of Lake Champlain, and I'm in Canada so having to do this with the Marina by phone and email which is not ideal

Anyways, if anyone has photo's, it would really really be appreciated

The will come out. Removing the door gives you an extra 3-4" No engine hoist fork through the door. Yes its an F36 and not 318s but the same removal

Perhaps one other question......

Would you guys re-power, or rebuild the current engines? My gut feel is to remanufacture / rebuild - yet the argument for a repowerr in terms of parts in future and a warranty are compelling.

Financially my guess is a rebuild will cost me less than a repower..... but I'm open to any suggestions

The repower suggestion is a Chev 350, 5.7L

What is wrong with your current engine or engines? Can you get a complete reverse turn 350 ? If not a new trans will be needed.

On my 81 F-32 the 318'' came thru the door. Remove the dipstick. Put duct tape on the door frame and on both exhaust manifolds. Removed the sliding door stops so the door opens fully. Or you could remove one manifold.

Thanks all...

Prowlerfish.... the port engine has two cylinders on borderline compression, and runs hot....., starboard engine is fine, but both engines are somewhere over 1500 hours. ACK on the transmission replacement that might be needed. I'm inclined to just get the engines rebuilt at Island Racing in VT.

It's a little frustrating being some 50 miles from the boat - might as well be 2,000 until the border opens, and even then Canada is (as of now) requiring a PCR test to re-enter.

cheers

Yes they will fit through the door. I removed the door to get mine out. However to ease the removal I also removed the heads off the engines.

Here a few pics of my engine removal. I build a lift in the boat and cradles for the engines.
