BobCT, would like to see a couple of pics of that cover you modified with strips, when you get a chance. Let me understand the cover mod you did, do the batteries now take the weight of stepping on the cover or what takes the weight? Sounds like something I may consider doing to mine as well.

I was initially thinking of lowering the whole box down a few inches and then glassing in a couple of runners to the inside of the stringers and install a removable "deck plate".

Thanks for any feedback.

rr,
Now that's a different way to do it! Is that a diamond plate screwed/glued to the top of the original cover? What about the piece of plate that seems to be along the bottom, what does that serve? I like the set-up for sure.

diamond plate is aluminum glued down
I think stainless would be a better choice
the bottom piece is cosmetic covering some wood structure that was there
makes for a good step

RR,
Not to get off topic, (well, it's my topic so I guess I can stray from it) but I noticed you have a properly "molded" water hose coming from the circulating pump to the heat exchanger on the port engine, do you mind sending me the part number for it? I've been searching without confirmed success and short of calling a company, I've not been able to locate a couple of them.

Appreciate any info.

Love the clean white bilges by the way, great job on keeping them up!

I think this is what you are looking for
my memory is a little fuzzy and my notes are little confusing but
I ordered CRUR045146A from:
Marine Parts USA
5719 NW 114CT #103
FL 33178
305.883.4400
I can't find a website for them

this is where things get a little confusing
if I google CRUR045146A I get nothing
in my notes I have also written CRU 98014
if I google that number it comes up on marinepartssource.com looking like what you are after
hope that helps

RR,
That's it (CRU 98014), marinepartssource.com states that it fits my serial #72663 engine.
I appreciate the homework and your notes. I had seen that hose before, but don't remember seeing the fitment notes on their page.

Thanks again!

Scott,

Sorry, I never saw your reply above about the cover. Yes, the strips of plywood under the factory cover are positioned so that they go across the middle (roughly) of the battery tops and avoid the terminals. I added a piece of foam because I'm kneeling on that every time I use the boat when I flush the engines. Since the batteries sit higher, I had to reposition the hold down straps so they'll reach.

Let me see if I have a pic at home, I won't be back to the boat for a few weeks.

I posted this on the FB forum, but haven’t received any response to date. As I mentioned in my original post, I’m refreshing the battery box and grounding bus. I’ve ran across a question for some of you regarding the securing of the battery box to the planks between the engines. The PO had just screwed it into the planks with no regard to the “step” on the box at each corner. It seems like there should be bushings or spacers of sorts to prevent overnighting and cracking of the box corners. So, my question is, what does your install look like and or how was it originally designed?

Pictures of my setup are on the Official Trojan Page on FB, photos are too large to upload here at the moment.

Thanks for any input.

You could make bushing or spacer. Or just don't overtighten

Make a spacer, should be easy and no worries.

Just a follow-up on what I decided to do regarding the spacer. Seemed easy enough, I just needed to think about it some.
