Oil Filter Question

I got new oil filters this year and noticed that they were a bit longer than the ones I had on last year. They were Sierra filters which replace the mercruiser filters which the dealer does not have. Is there any engine issue in using these longer filters? (They spin on fine and clear the hatch)
thanks.

I had the same issue with fram filters for my 400 chryslers. There is a long and a short. I use the long. I figure the more filter, the more filtering.

No issue, as long as the pipe thread and filter seat match up. I agree that the longer filter should be better, but mainly as it offers more surface area. In all alikelyhood, the paper is has the same characteristics. What will happen with the larger filter on a really dirty engine is longer useful life of the filter and prevent clogging and eventual blow-out (very bad).

yep, shouldn't matter as long as threads and seal match up......FYI, Napa Gold is a great filter for boat applications......rated much better than fram and most others..............JD

Believe the reason the NAPA Gold filter is good in boat applications is that it is treated with a dessicant which traps any water in the oil.

I agree Napa Oil Filters are pretty good. I use the Napa Gold 1068 filters on my Chrysler M360's and they are a little taller than what was original and they work fine.
