DEPTH FINDER TRANSPONDER QUESTION

while the boat is getting sea cock work done, i thought i would have the yard add another depth sounder ..... only have one on the bridge and i need one in the lower helm station. my question is this.... can the guys tap into the transponder that is already there and just run a wire from that to the new one in the lower helm. is there a way for two (upper and lower) units to use one transponder? if i do not have to drill through the hull i would rather not.
thanks.

Aaron, not sure I would even consider tying into another transducer, even if you could. The whole idea of having two transducers, other than convenience of two locations, would be redundancy...you lose that transducer, you lose functions of both units. :(

I have two on mine, thru-hull.

I believe there is another problem the transducer gets it's information from the return that it sends out with two working at the same time it would have problems on reading dual returns. I would work if you only ran one at a time.

I have 2, one on the flybridge and one on the lower helm.....2 transducers.......as mentioned above, you can't use them at the same time, they confuse each other. I it nice to have one at each station however I rarely if ever drive from the lower helm but it's nice when I'm anchored fishing......John

I have two Depth Finders as well as two transducers. One of the Depth Finders came with a transom mount transducer so I glued it down inside the bilge, works great no need to drill another hole in the bottom, I stuck it down with silicone.
