Trojan Boat Forum

A friend of mine likes my boat and wants something similar but smaller. Well, look what he came up with:

Ain't that a clean lil' bugger?! Great engine and bilge access, big bridge, etc....what a perfect 28 footer. You can't pack much more boat than that into 28 feet. A repowered Trojan for $10k...crazy.

I'm going to go look at it with him this week. Besides the normal Trojan stuff, (ie. all cored decks, stringers, galv. fuel tanks) is there anything specific to this model I should know to help my bud? I thought the cockpit was wood before 1979...but this one looks like glass?

No...probably not. (LOL) Every boat I have is for sale if a nice person offers an ample amount of money...but no, not really. I'll have to sell it when/if I get a new boat from the company I just started - but that'll be at least a couple years from now. I love my F-36.

That's not my boat, I have an F-36. But have you ever seen a cleaner 1977 than that?

I coulda swore I saw your boat (F36) on either yachtworld or boats a week or so ago. It sure was a sweet one. You're right .... that sure is a clean 77 .... and the price is great also.

I like how open the area is around the engines to work on them. Nice looking boat. I take it it is down your way JuiceClark? BTW, we get down to Ft. Myers every 5 yrs. for my wife's High School reunion (No. Ft. Myers class of '77). Always have a great time!

I guess that is what you get with V drives and aft engines.

Aw crap...I see now looking at the pics the exhaust running one way and the tranny going the other - not good. Good eyeballs in noticing that...it didn't even cross my mind.

I had an ol' Carver Santa Cruz, 1978, with the same layout and it was straight inboards with the engines under the cockpit like that. I'm trying to remember how that worked to get the angle right with such a short shaft. Anyway, I guess that's why I forgot about damned V-drives. I've never had a boat with that set-up because I was always told to avoid it...don't know what problems it would bring besides a very expensive repair in a very inexpensive boat!

You did see it. My poor buddy Deano has had my boat listed (he doesn't pay for the ad) on Yachtworld for like three years...probably always will. He's gotten a lot of calls on it and sold several el cheapo, crappo boats to people who called about it. But there's so many boats for sale down here for so little money mine won't sell. Hell, I coulda' bought a similar vintage 48' Egg Harbor with 8v71s for $50k recently.
Thanks for reminding me those pics are that old. I should send him new ones so y'all can see what I've spruced-up.

Will take you up on that offer next time I'm down, JuiceClard. My wife's family home in Cape Coral was razed for one of the new bridges-can't remember if it's College or 884.

My friend went to test drive this clean lil' Trojan...and one engine wouldn't even turn over. (although starter was getting juice)

That's the funny thing about boats - sometimes it's the ugliest piece of junk that always brings you home smiling while the shiniest trophy stays in the shop!

JC ....I was wondering how your friend made out. Is he still interested or did he see enough?

Which engine didn't turn over? How did the other engine run? Any other major issues with it? May be some interest on the part of others on the forum as a project boat if your friend doesn't go for it.

I talked with him about it at the Gators vs. Crimson Tide game...so, we didn't talk about it for more than a minute with all the excitement.

He just said he decided not to buy that boat. As I think about it...he said he went down there to test drive it and the dealer said they couldn't go out because there was a problem with one of the engines and it wouldn't turn over. Dealer said the battery was hot but no turning over at all. The engines sure look new to me. When in doubt, I've found the best bet is that the dealership doesn't know what the hell they're doing...probably a loose cable or something stupid like that.

Hell yes...if someone is looking for that boat go check it out! If I'm around, tell me so I can come with you! My buddy Tom is finicky as hell and doesn't know this kind of boat ... will probably end-up with a shiny Clorox bottle.

Another thing, after I read a bit about it, V-drives don't seem too bad if you're a do-it-yourselfer. I see the parts around pretty cheap if you blow one up....just the labor that's the killer.
