6.2 GM Diesel

Has anyone ever seen a 6.2 Diesel in Marine format? I have seen a few for sale but I am having trouble getting any info on them. I have come into a really cheap 6.2 and I have a weakness for buying engines. I have found that everything for a 350 will bolt onto the 6.2 diesel but I have not figured out if the flywheel hub bolt pattern is the same or not. I dont have the engine or the flywheel to check yet. Just curious if anyone had any info on such a project.

I was looking at a boat two years ago with the 6.2. I was told to stay away.

Are speaking of the 6.2 GM diesel which introduce in the early '80s?

They were converted from the Oldsmobile 350 cid engine. If so, why would you want that headache in a boat?

I had one in an Olds Cutlass back in the day ..... it was a true POS if I must say....

The 6.2 Has nothing in common with the olds diesel . The 6.2 was never ever put in a car . Not one part is the same not even the oil filter .

The 6.2 is the same as the newer 6.5 Diesel both were good p/u truck engines . there is a few in boats mostly the 6.5 its Fair as a boat engine thats about all I will say . parts not real easy to get for marine but can be found.

Almost no Parts of a 350 chevy gas will fit the 6.2 or 6.5 . I belive the bell housing is the same and motor mount bolt up may be the same . fly wheel balance is way difrent and I belive will not bolt up. manafolds pumps and stuff like that are 6.2/6.5 only parts .

You are thinking of the 5.7 diesel can out in 1978 ? and was used untill 1985 in cars and 81 in trucks I belive . the 6.2 came out in 81 or 82 for trucks only .

The 6.2 was built from the ground up as a diesel It did have issues in the early years .

Yes, Paul- you are correct about the Olds version. Still, you can keep the 6.2 which GM put into their light trucks in the 80s.

You had a 5.7 more then likely they also made a 260 diesel in the cutlas same basic block / heads etc . the also made a 4.3 V6 diesel use in front wheel drive and and some rear wheel cutlas. the 4.3 was a V6 clone of the 5.7 I always felt it held up better then the 5.7 ( like thats saying much.)

The early ones had some proplems but the later ones and the 6.5 held very well . as boat engine fair is all I would give it .

The 6.2 was built strictly as a diesel in the Detroit Diesel factory. like it has been pointed out the 5.7 conversion motor was a POS. I am not old enough to have had one myself but by mother had one and it was terrible (I was probably 7 or 8 at the time). The 6.2 I am looking at is a later model (1994). I know it will handle the boat application well as far as the camshaft. and with a little rigging I can get most of my accessories on it. I just like to mess around with different configurations. I have had a hard time finding parts for a marine configuration.
