my flybridge control handles for my transmissions have these old wooden spindles attached, there pretty dry rotted, and yesterday one of them cracked off i my hands, leaving me only the metal rod,
any thoughts on what to use for a replacement,
I mean its not hard to make one, but was wondering if anybody has replaced them , and what with
thanks

You could have a machine shop make you a couple out of delrin. It is a very hard plastic that they use for things like parts of a clarinet or for bushings in rotating joints. It will look close in color to what you have and last forever. You can also get it in dark brown, red, black, white, grey.
