Anchor Windlass for F-26

Post by randyp »

I'm thinking about installing a 12V windlass off the anchor platform that I built a few years back for the mighty Blue Heron. I'd like to mount it just behind the rear of the platform which gives it plenty of room to drop the chain/rode into the well in front of the v-berth. Please bear in mind we're talking about the F-26 - 26' LOA, weight about 6K lbs. I use a 13lb Danforth anchor with 10' of chain and 150' of rode. This has been fine in all conditions for the past 10 years.

Any advice and/or experience on type, style, etc.?

Thanks!

"Good" brand windlass. I just replaced my old rusted out Power Winch with the free fall model. 1/2" line.

You can probably pick up a decent used one on ebay. I got mine here, through a forum member.

I've got a "Horizon 400"on my F-26 which has been used almost every summer weekend since 2001 without any problems. I have 200 ft of 1/2" twisted rope with 15 ft of chain and a danforth anchor. The only thing that I think would be an improvement on this windlass would be a free fall option.

Hope This Helps,
