What is the best boat wax/polish for normal use and for heavily oxidized gelcoat? My hull looks good after buffing with 3M's marine wax and cleaner, but the topsides are very oxidized. Is a product called Collinite any good?

3M heavy duty rubbing compound followed by polishing with Buff Magic.
Once you're satisfied with the results and removal of oxidation, apply a good wax. There is also a product called Finess which I heard has great results but have not tried.

For non skid areas this works well and lasts several seasons before recoating.

A lot of people up here really like Collinite. It's made right here in Utica, & it works good.

Powerboat Reports did a study several years ago and Collinite Paste wax was the clear winner, but.....no wax will fix oxidized gelcoat.

Foofer,
the best I found for oxidation is 3M heavy Duty, it comes in a brown Qt. bottle. It can be cut with water to adjust for heavy or lighter areas of oxidation. After using, be sure to rince the area with lots of fresh water. Follow up with any Collinite wax, the paste is the best but it is the most labor intensive. Any of their are also good but don't last quite as long, but ease in re-waxing might be worth it. It's up to you but I prefer to stay away from 3M waxes. I had an issue with them a few years back, and contacted 3M for some help. I found that they won't even stand behind their wax products.

Collonite makes a polishing compound too.
