F 36 question: where is the ?back flow? preventer located on the fresh water system?....can't keep press when disconeceted, pours out of the hose hook up : thanks: ( may cannabilize one way valve on AC if no easy fix,till get back home.)

I suspect that by "hose" you are talking about the dockside water inlet, and that it leaks through the fitting when you remove the hose and pressurize the system with your fresh water pump.

There is usually a check valve built into the dockside water fitting, although there are some applications that have a stand-alone check valve separate from the inlet fitting. They do have a tendency to leak with age, sometimes due to improper winterizing. Quickest fix in a pinch is to pick up a gardening hose fitting that has a shut off in it (some are for a single hose, some are "Y"s for two hoses). Hook it up to the inlet and shut the valve off.

There is another check valve in the fresh water system located in the fresh water pump. Water can leak back through the pump after the system is pressurized causing the pump to come on again even though no valves have been opened. I've also seen water tanks fill up when dockside water hookup is active. The faulty check valve in the pump lets water past the pump and into the tank.

sorry not to reply in a timely fashion... yes on trip to North Channel... just on way back home : no internet service till tonight. great trip,beavers,northern pike fishing,1 bear sighting. teenage kids kids went through 3 shear pins on the dingy prop,rode a bicycle off a dock in Little Current,fished the bike out of 30 feet of water wlth dingy anchor (hee,hee,hee, got pictures for future blackmail). genny died,head over flowed... today,port gas tank quit ....now running on one tank found out the hard way ( spent 3 hrs dead in the water) gotta love an old boat....(just not right now...)

Sounds like you are having a great time despite the problems. The bike deal in Little current should provide some good pics. Where were you docked? I usually stay at Spider Bay Marina but many dock right down town. That is really a neat place.

Hope you got to eat some of the fish in Killarney and stayed away from the "Big Canoe" in Tobermory.

Glad you made it back safely. Let me know your final on fuel if you don't mind. I burn about 25gph at 3000RPM doing about 18kts on my 255 Mercs. It would be interesting to know what you are burning.

Kincardine is a great place with lots to see & do and plenty of good food.

Mine has a pressure reducing valve that also acts as a check valve plus it has a spigot screwed into the inlet port that you can shut off when the dockside is disconnected.
