I just picked up an extra Pompanette captains chair. I want to add it to the upper helm. Do I just lagg screw it in? Anyone ever added a second seat?

I would think that you would want to make sure you have adequate structural support at the mounting point since the weight of the chair and its load when someone is sitting on it make up a pretty good moment arm at the base. I would check to see what kind of structural support is directly under the intended mounting point first and add some if there is none there.
The base is pretty broad which spreads the load, but I think you need structural support of some kind or a backing plate under there.
Just my 2c.

On my helm chairs 2 of the bolts on each base are thru bolted . I wound do that on your new chair . If yoy use cap nuts it will look good

My helm was equipped with two captains chairs which were bolted right through to the inside of the salon ceiling. I would not use lag bolts as the balsa core will not give enough holding power.
Do you not see two nuts and washers on your salon ceiling for the existing chair? about 9" inside the sliding door frame.

I see 2 nuts / bolts through the salon ceiling but there are 6 bolts in the base total. Are the other bolts through the ceiling as well? I cant see them or find them. There is some type of fiberglass header there where the salon glass door is. Does that header come off? Anyone ever put one of these in from scratch?
