Hi, I have what may seem like a dumb question to all of you, but here goes - I have an '87 F32. I have mounted a 32" flat screen on the port side wall and I want to add an electirical outlet and cable outlet (direct tv) behind the tv. Just want to make things cleaner and not have cords hanging all over the place. I am not electrically talented at all, and will have to hire someone to do this. Should I look for an electrician or a boat guy to do this small job for me? Thanks for your help!

Do NOT use solid wire.

DO use stranded wire that meets ABYC codes

As far as WHO, some boat techs are not as familiar with the requirements of 120/240 as a LICENSED ELECTRICIAN would be.

Welcome to the forum Patti.

I would have an electrician do the job and good advice about type of wire from previous poster.

We always like pictures of new members' boats if you have any.

Welcome to the forum .

I agree with the above posts . This is a easy job and I am sure many boat techs can do it , But how do you know if the one you pick can ? you know a lic electrician could . best bet would be a marine electrician. Some boat yards may have someone that can do it or may recommend someone . a reg. electrician will be fined on a job like this how ever for major electrical work you need a marine electrician as there are some differences between home and the boat .

Welcome aboard Patti. From what you described I agree with the wiring recommendation and think a competent marine electrician associated with your yard can handle this. I've done stuff like this on our F-26, but I know what I'm doing (don't ask my wife.......)

I'd love to see a picture. I have an F32 & have been fighting with a place to mount my lil 19" flat screen. I'm in the process of making a bracket so it can be mounted on the wall in the galley the seperates the galley from the head. The bracket will allow the TV to be moved up in front of the window when I want to watch it & stored down when we are out running or not using it.
PS Welcome! This place is GREAT... Everyone is super helpful.

The guys are right, a licensed professional is the way to go whenever there is a chance of flooding or burning down your house or boat. Post some pics.
