We have an old (I believe original) Sealand 911-m28 gravity discharge head on board with an 8 gallon holding tank. Before we replace with the new 711-m28 with a 9 gallon capacity, I'd be interested in hearing what any of you have done with the holding tank capacity in your Trojan. Economy is obviously an issue - no sense putting a $1500 VacuFlush system in. The new 711 m28 costs just $369 from Defender.

I have a 15 or a 20 gallon (can't remember) holding tank under the V berth and a regular electric mascerating toilet in the head. Work well enough but I plan on converting the toilet to use fresh water. My only complaint is smell from the seawater that sits in the toilet for any period of time.

With my family of 4, a 9 gallon holding tank would be a hardship.

I just replace my whole sanaitation system on my F32. I put in a Jabsco head new hoses and put a v shaped 40 gal holding tank in the bow under the v-berth. If you want I can look up the tank number and manufacture. We cruise alot and the 40 gal tank gives us alot of capacity between pumpouts!

Yes, scurvydog, if you could please let me know what you did - did you install yourself? About how much did it cost, if I may ask?

Jav, I am told the smell is pretty bad using raw water. We were told that was the option when considering a Jabso unit. Our limitation is the 40 gallon fresh water tank - using F/W @ 1 gallon per flush would seriously limit our anchor time! This 9 gallon unit allows us to use only 1/2 pint of water per flush - with just the two of us, it works and installation is simplicity.

If anyone has any alternatives here, I'd appreciate hearing them!

Geri, I gutted and installed it myself. The gutting job was awfull!!! Yuck! I installed a through haul in the forward bildge for a freshwater flush. Routed the waste hose through the head wall, cabinate, behind the drawers into the forward v-berth. I had a 1 1/2 through haul opening on each side of the haul that wasn't being used. I ordered my tank with dual vents to accomidate. With a vent on each side of the tank, I had excellent air exchange through the tank and no odor. The tank I ordered was from Plastic Mart ( http://www.plastic-mart.com ) I just tryed their website again and they are having problems right now. I ordered tank number B101 which was 40 gal and fit in the v of the bow. You have to select the location size, and type of fittings with their help. In under two weeks the tank arrived and I installed it. I just slid the tank in and braced the rear of the tank in with some simple framing. I have now used my new system for one season. We cruised for 3 weeks and used the boat heavily every weekend. I have no complaints and would not change anything. The best money I spent on the boat so far!!!

BTW If wanted I can snap some pics of the tank next time at the boat.
