Hey all. I am considering moving up to a MY from my cabin cruiser. I am looking at a 1973 Trojan 53' MY this weekend and can really use some advice from someone who knows this boat.
Thanks!

1974 Shephard/Trojan 53' MY named "Winsome"
Its located in Amityville, Long Island, NY. The same owner has owned her since 1994.
ENGINE cummins CYLINDERS 8 HORSE POWER 370 CI ENGINE MODEL vt ENGINE TYPE TRANSMISSION capitol DRIVE TYPE v drive
I also know that she doesn't have catwalks and the deckhouse was extended quite a bit for additional salon space.

Please excuse my ignorance but remember this would be my first MY. I own 27' and 29' cabin cruisers so I know all about drafts. This listing says 9' hull depth. Is that the same as a 9' draft?

No,
Hull depth is from the bottom of the keel to the top of the sheer, draft is, from the bottom of the keel to the water line, the portion of the boat that is in the water.

Phew!! I am looking to cruise the Atlantic Intracoastal and great loop and having a 9' draft would not work. Any idea of the draft on this vessel?

Based on the 1972 Trojan Specs, the 42' and 47 have 36" draft and the 53' MY has 46" draft.
53' MY Specs:
L.O.A. 53'
Beam 15'-10"
Draft 46"
Freeboard Fwd. 90"
Freeboard Aft. 60"
Weight 44,000 lbs.
Fuel 630 gals.
Water 204 gals.
That's some boat, or should I say ship.

Thanks for those specs. Yes she is quite the monster ship! Although I guess that is in the eyes of the beholder. I'm coming from a 29' cabin cruiser so its a monster to me. However, some of these guys running true Yachts would probably look at it as a little dink.

THe Cummins 370 ( V8) has not been made in years great engine BUT parts are hard to come by and pricey $$$$$ , Find some one that knows the engine and can work on it is important too ,
So beware as a re power is not cheap
Boat survey and engine survey is a must

I keep my boat in amityville and I have never seen this boat before. are you sure that it is in amityville ?/? It's listed in Georgia!
Be care ful on the south shore of long island, It's really shallow, I ran agound in the channel so watch the bouy's they are not where they should be. If you buy her ...... make sure you get your self an up to date chart!
