Trojan Boat Forum

I am thinking about buying a Trojan 36 tri-cabin to cruise the great loop. Is it a good boat for that type of trip? Has anyone done it? I would appreciate input and suggestions. Thanks.

I have always wanted to do the loop. In fact, on this forum I mention a few months ago that if anyone up north would like to swap F-36 or 32 Trojans for short periods of time it would get me warmed-up for the loop one day. Of course, I prolly' won't be retiring for 15 to 20 years...so let me dream!

I have never been on an F-36 tri-cabin. However, I have been on its big brother, the F-44 and it was very very nice. The layout makes it seem about 3 times bigger than it really is....sweet.

The tri cabin is a nice boat .inside its hard to beleve its the same size boat as mine I think it would be a nice boat for the loop !

I've stumbled upon a pretty good boating magazine "Power Cruising"-this month they started a multi month travel log written by a couple who are doing (or did the loop last summer). Good reading. In general I find the magazine to be pretty good. Most of the information in the four or five editions I've read deal with the pacific northwest but they do have information about other areas.

Ive done half the the great loop from detroit mich to Galveston Texas
it was the most relaxing thing ive done and want to retrace it back to the great lakes
met all kinds of freindly people along the way
dont do the mississippi its full of logs,rough from the tug traffic and muddy the tenn-tombigby is the ticket (quit and straight for the most part but plenty to see and do)lots of forest and wildlife to to see
I made my trip on an 30'trojan sea raider
I would adviss every boater to try and make at least part if not all of the great loop you will talk about it the rest of your days

So, you go Mobile to Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway through Tennesee to Kentucky and then go up/down Mississippi past St. Louis?

I'd love to hear more ... reading about it now ...

you go thru kentucky lake to the tenn-river then hit the ohio river witch takes you to the mississippi I traveled about 70miles up the miss. hit the ilinios river upp to chicago and lake michigan it was outstanding
there are museums, parks and resturants along the way, take time to explore all you can
a quimbly cruzing guide is a must, it has all the marina for fuel and sites to see along the way and also inportant information you will need to know
we went thru 117 locks

I have owned two tricabins and looking for my soon to be third. I think they are a great boat wiht lots of room. I brought my first from NC to HIlton Head SC about 250 miles down the ICW with 3 other guys and it was great! Not only do they have lots of interior room, they still have a small cockpit for fishing, and lots of room in the helm area. You can find a good one for under 40k. With a little work and imagination you can have a great ICW cruiser, a near off shore fishing boat, and a condo for weekend get aways.
