I hope this helps in the future at least for the 318 chrysler, thanks to prowlerfish for asking me to post these.

Great visuals Larry. It's the best way to describe stuff. Looks like you have tang drive distributors (no gear on distributor shaft) if I'm looking at them right. Not all 318 models are like that though so one must be carefull. Some 318s drive tang driven distributor shafts which can be used for LH and RH rotation, and some drive gear driven distributor shafts where the gear on the distributor shaft is cut differently depending on engine rotation.

These were the newer electronic fired ones and you are correct no gear on the distributors just a blade, perhaps the older point models were different, don't know, but the camshaft gear should look like the pics.

FYI to properly allign the gear, bring #1 to TDC on Compression, there is a mark on the gear with blade socket, that mark lies inline with the blade and should be in a line drawn to the front intake manifold bolt over number one cylinder. Whew, but it works and that is per the manual. :)

You may be correct guess difference may be points vs electronic ignition. However the camshaft gear should still look like the ones in the pic. IMO. :)
