I have a 1974 Trojan 44. The water tank is about 12" deep and takes up most of the inside of the transom. From the deck down it is as wide as the boat on top and narrows down to the bottom.

On a '74 Tricabin, the freshwater tank is located against the hull behind the gas tank on the starboard side. Access is through the generator compartment. It is a fiberglass unit that is really hard to get to. You're gonna need a midget contortionist if you need to work on it.

The blackwater holding tank is on the port side.
