Can anyone tell me how to start and more importantly stop the engines from the bilge? Looking to winterize the engines with one person and no lower station.

I have a remote starter button to engage the starters. But I am not sure where to supply power to to start the engine without the key on so I can switch the power back off in the bilge. Would I just supply the + side of the coil with the ignition turned off?

In many cases power to the + side of the coil will work , BUT on some engines it won't . what engines ? what type of ignition system ? carb or EFI ?

1990 270 Crusaders, carbs, either points or point conversions not sure yet.

Points no problem and most point conversions no problem if you have a resistor the wire should be hooked up there

I have a 1990 also. I use a little gizmo that I bought in an auto parts store which has a start and run switch. It clips to the starter terminals and the coil. Works great.

That is exactly what I need. Any idea who makes it? I have one that will trigger the starter for bumping the engines but will not start or stop them.

All you need is a jumper wire with aligator clips; one end to any 12 volt positive source and the other end to the coil or ballast resistor. With ignition key off, bump the starter with your remote starter switch, and she will fire. When you want her to stop, pull the jumper wire off.

Any auto parts store should have one for under $20.00

I believe that to control both the starter and ignition you need a three wire setup, with a switch for ignition and starter.

The two wire setup will activate the starter, but not control ignition on/off.
