Crusader blue paint

Post by Mike Kulp »

I just painted my new elbows, risers and water pumps with a can of paint I purchased 2 years ago. It looks more like ford blue than my original crusader blue and I am pretty sure this topic was just discussed and somebody gave a part # for the proper color but I could not find that post, my paint was Moeller #25491 and this color is two dark. My wife said color does not matter as I was complaining on sunday so I responded with lets put orange carpet in the dinning room now I am out of browny points again.

Yeah? And I suppose that when there is a row of screws that the driver slots don't need to be lined-up either!

You can get genuine cru$ader paint at

Not being able to believe the price, and needing some myself, I looked at 8 or 10 other places after I first posted. Most were ~$23 per can! Then I found this place with a slightly lower price than in my first response:

This might be what your talking about Mike. "unchained" posted it for me.

"Hey Todd, Thanks. I appreciate the compliment. The work you and your wife have done on your boat is incredible. I use Dupli-Color Ceramic Engine Enamel. Gray primer color DE1612, "Old" Ford Blue (Dark) DE1621 and Ford Blue (Light/Crusader color) DE1601. I have had great results with using just the paint by itself or with the primer. You have to apply whatever method you choose within 1 hour, leaving 10 minutes between coats. A light coat of primer, followed by two coats of paint seems to work very well. The Ford Blue is close to Crusader Blue and costs 1/3 of the price. I know I'll get some feedback on that comment, but then again, I wasn't going for an original stock look....as you can see."
