Rick I did the same thing with my old boat put an electric pump in series with the manual pump for the same reason you want to but when I ran on manual only I would wind up starving carb. when i tried to speed up so i removed the manual and ran electric pump only I shore learned alot from that old boat as you can see

Oh yeah Eddie, learning is the fun part, I am still learning. When that engin quits that boat stops like a lead tub, what size el-pump did you install, that 351 of mine drinks a lot of fuel
