Upper Helm Shifter Cables.

Hello,
Does anybody know what the lengths of the shifter cables for the upper helm of a 1976 F36 TryFly? The boat has the lower helm. I would like to replace these cables before spring and do not see a length on them. I was hopping to tape the new ones to the old ones, them pull them thru. My cables seem to have stretched to the end of their adjustment. I am guess that they are original.
Thank you
Kevin

Have you looked for a number stamped on the cables? It is usually at one end or the other; at shifter or engine end.

Yes I have looked. I am guessing that they are original and the numbers are faded. Maybe I looked right at them and did not see them.

Why not take one out while pulling a string through to use to pull the new one in. I think it is much easier pulling using string as you avoid the double thickness where you tape two cables together. On my F32 there was not much space to pull the cable down as the hole in the bridge was quite full with other electrical cables etc: Mine come down behind the box between the side windows then go forward to the lower helm. Is your boat that different?

Not sure if it would work for you, but on my F32 I used a tape measure and measured each segment of the existing cable, approximating behind walls, then ordered the estimated length I came up with. It came out perfect. I do think it may be easier to pull new cable with old cable vs. string, because of the rigidity factor, but that's just my thought. Good luck whichever way you go.

The boat is wrapped up and put to bed for season and not easy to get into. I wish that I had measured it before hand but I was running way to short on time. I guess that I was hoping that someone would somehow know these lengths. I know that this was a long shot but it is worth a try. I was hoping to have new cables in hand for when I pull the cover off in a long 4 months.

Hello, I'm a noob. My shift cables are disconnected to the upper helm. The controls have a place to connect them at the front or the back. (both are used on the lower helm because one goes up) Do I connect to the front or the back on the upper? Thank you.
BTW- It took a while to name my 1985 F32 TROJAN. Since I am new, it started with STUDENT DRIVER. My kids being fans of the office wanted THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID. I, being a fan of the boss wanted SPRINGSTEEN. My wife and I were headed to the boat and heard SOUTHERN CROSS. It was decided.

Goods question. But easy to figure out. While the lower is in neutral look at your cables up top to see how far out the ends are out. Then put levers forward. If the ends of the cable are out farther, the cable hooks up to the rear of the shifter. If shorter hook them up to the front.
Congrats on the new boat.
Good Boat name.
