Head/pump out power switch on panel

Post by dolcesol2 »

I am new to Trojan and this forum. Ive enjoyed reading some posts for my own knowledge and now i need some help before i tear into my projects.

i have a 1986 10 Meter. the previous owner called it a "sport" model, but i am not 100% on that. this model does have an aft berth, v berth, galley is mid cabin with dinette and head. the head is equipped with a vacuflush system. the power panel has 2 switches that i am a bit confused about...head and pump out. i assume that the head switch is for the vacuflush system and the pump out is for an overboard discharge. when i had the survey done, the overboard discharge is in the closed position. however, we have used the head several times, and now when i turn on the head switch, ive got some discharge out a through hull in the immediate area of the head. not sure if this has done this since we've owned the boat, about 1 month.

I would agree with your assement of the switches. You never though. How full is your holding tank? If it's to the max you may be seeing discharge through the vent line of the holding tank

If the discharge is coming out of a through hull above the water line, it is most likely the vent. The discharge from the holding tank will be under water and sounds like it is blocked as long as the closed valve is working correctly. You probably know this already, but if you get caught discharging untreated sewage, you will be fined if you are in US waters.

Before doing anything else, I would get the holding tank pumped out. If you get lots of waste, the tank was probably full and discharging through the vent. If that is the case, you should also check the vent line for a filter and change it out if there is one.

yes, the through hull is above the water line. Oddly enough, at the same time, the toilet in the head has been making a "slurping" sound and not holding water in the bowl. it almost seems to me that there is a clog or maybe the holding tank is full and it is automatically pulling through the vent line. Guess i'll start fresh with a pump out and go from there.
