First you create an avatar file in a photo hosting site like photobucket.com.

Then you size that Image to an appropriate avatar size like 320x240.

Once you have the image how you want it, save it and copy the direct link to that image (photobucket has a one step button for this)

Then come back on here and go to your profile.

At the bottom of the profile page you'll see a box for a link to an "avatar"- copy the direct link into that box and fill in the confirmation text.

come back to one of your posts and see that it worked.

If you did it in photobucket and sized it to 320x240, it should not be too big. Place your mouse cursor over mine to the left, right mouse click then select "properties" and you'll see that mine is that size.

Worst case, you can try smaller to see if it works for you. I know it says in the profile section 80x80, but that doesn't seem to matter.

yeah,

that pic is 640x480..... but it looks great!

OOPS,. there you go!

you can also crop the pic so you have that same size photo but more of the boat and less of the background.

a little large - should resize to about 1/2 of this size. Otherwise it looks great!
