Today only, West Marine has a $50 off sale on some of their store brand bottom paints. PCA Gold is $159, but some of the lower priced paints are also $50 off, which makes them a great deal.

PCA Gold is currently $150/gal at West Marine through March 29.

Their CPP bottom paint is buy on/get one free at $129/gal, so you are getting a gallon for $65!

PCA Gold is currently on sale for $189 -- not the best price I have ever seen, but maybe for this year? Not wanting to risk paying full price, I caved and bought a gallon.

The price is good through 3/8/21.

We went 3 years this time, and 2 years the first time with PCA Gold. Just before the beginning of the 3 years, I applied a roller-width coat at the water line and then one complete coat over the whole bottom. After staying in for three summers and two winters, I was quite impressed.

It might have helped not using the boat much last summer courtesy of Maryland's governor making it illegal to visit our boat for a couple of months and just as we got permission to visit it, family stuff took up the rest of the summer. That said, I believe we would have still been OK if it had been a normal summer for us.

PCA Gold is $159.99 from March 23-April 4 at West Marine. We have been getting three years between haul outs in the mid Chesapeake Bay with spotty paint left after power washing. The marina guys keep asking what we are using because they are impressed with how well it is working.

PCA Premium (used to be PCA Premium Gold?) is on sale at West Marine for $169.99 with free shipping. I could not find a date when this price expires, but it is part of their spring prep event, so I am sure there is one.

hope it's ok to piggyback on this thread
we are in marina del rey southern california
we have owned the boat for 3 years now
we have not painted the bottom and it is likely that the previous owner did not either (maybe 5 years)
the service that cleans the bottom is not complaining and says there are no blisters

just want to know, is any harm is being done here?

thx

That's good question. Sadly I went 5 years with out doing it and using a diver. Due to health reasons. Diver told me how bad the paint was known well he would loss my business for cleaning every 6 weeks. Depending on the time of year It could be a 6-knot difference a knot a week  . For a diver to see blisters they would have to be huge IMO. The thinner the paint is the more your diver is scraping the barrier coat and or the gel coat. IMO its past time I hated going past 2-3 years and try to now do 1-2 years. 3 would be a absolute out lot max IMO.

Nothing runs better then a fresh bottom job.
