unknown electrical device
Not sure, once I get the engines out for fresh ones, I will study it. Just wanted to know if it was a trojan piece of someone added it later, I havent seen any clues yet as to what it really is. Obviously having fins indicats a need for cooling. It could be as you suggest an inverter of Battery char...

unknown electrical device
F28 1977, on bulkhead of engine compartment, as I am rehabing my boat, I noticed a black finned electrical device, approlimately 12 in wide by 6-7 inches hight bolted to the bulhead. Any ideas what this thing is? Disregard this it is a double battery charger, keeping shore power on it now while on c...

318 engine rotation
I almost hate to start this again but here goes. I have a 78 F28 with two 318 chryslers. Now I know in boating engine rotation is determined from the output side of the engine, that said, I have two paragon transmission V drives and looking at the props they are set to turn towards eachother at the ...

AC controls
I am putting an AC in my F28 and need control. Do you know if it is designed for reverse cycle, (heatpump) operation the dometic system I am installing is that design. Per chance do you also have a control box that goes between the control head and the unit. I will build my own if necessary, of cour...

drain plug
Most likely there two one in the stern and one forwards. They are referred to as Garboard plugs, don't known why the name. I am going to take mine out and replace with a brass one, won't stick again.

AC Refrigerant
By the way Refrigerant 22 is not the new refrigerant, it will not be manufactured 2010 on. There are many new ones. Usually the replacement for new systems is 410A and will not work in a 22 system. You will only be able to buy recycled 22 after 2009 just like what happened to Freon 12 a few years ba...

Air cond
I have two marine AC units that are actually small heatpumps that use a water heatexchanger to condense. I bought them in a deal with a 8KW diesel marine genset which is functional. I am going to install them in my F28. The AC units are similiar to those found in West Mrine catelogue and only will r...

rotation
I think all the confusion is in semantics of what is ment by counter rotation. I would think that would indicate the opposite from the normal automotive engine, which is CCW from the flywheel end. But I am sure someone would argue agains that. If you look up pictures of auto engines with fans on the...

rotation
from what I have researched engine rotation for marine engines is determined from looking at the output or flywhell end. I would think normal rotation, given that these are really auto engines adapted for marine use would be the same as what you would find in a car which is clockwise from the front ...

counter rotating
My f28 has original 318s and the port engine has a yelloish decal on the timing cover top indication it is the CW or normal rotation. The starboard has the same arrow on the water pump bracket indicating CCW rotation and ther is also one on the transmission indicating properller shaft rotation. At t...

shipping boats
I went onto ushipit.com. advertise there for a shipper, the haulers will bid. They have to be insured and licened to bid. My experience of hauling an F28 from Cleveland Ohio to 60 miles east of Dallas Texas was excellent. Cost was $3K and on a hydraulic trailer. He set the boat down right on my crib...

F28 Engine room cover drainage
I am in the process of rehabing my F28, it is sitting high and dry on cribbing. When it rains the bilge gets a considerable amount of water which I pump out. The only place I can determine it is coming from is the engine room hatchs. It appears to be designed to channel the water to the port and sta...
