Bennett trim tabs
I have a 1980 F26 that stays in its Keuka Lake slip most of the summer, but I enjoy Fall boating after things a a little more quiet on the lake. I noticed a few days ago that my trim tabs were not working -- motor sound for each of the tabs, but no movement. Based on the info. I found in a search on...

Thanks for the responses. Today I replaced a leaking shower hose, but found that was really unnecessary, and the shower head was partially turned off and the back pressure was creating the problem -- but now the hose is new, anyway. Jefflaw: I have some pics on my phone, but have to figure out how t...

sounds kind of familiar. I had to be available for Baltimore or downtown D.C., though most of the time was spent in Balmer. Your commuting time expectations might be a bit optimistic -- think I would consider the northern Eastern Shore (MD), or a location over the line in Delaware that would give yo...

may be jumping in too late, but (maybe for future reference) have you considered epoxy for the decking and other bright work -- West System or equivalent. Over the winter, I refinished the swim platform on my 1980 F25, and sanded off an epoxy finish that a prior owner had applied, apparently some ti...

F25 "sanitary" issues
I have a 1980 F25 that went back into the water a couple of days ago. Last year, it was electricals, bilge pumps, caulking, temp. sender/gauges, etc.etc. This year, I would like to understand and fix the head. This boat has a shower and Mansfield head (circa 1979) that appears to sit on a holding ta...

New Castle? Delaware? I take it you mean the corp. office is in New Castle, or something similar, but you will be working in Baltimore? North end of the Baltimore metro area is nice, and good boating possibilities. If you are commuting regularly to Delaware, though, you are going to get tired of I95...

Think I would leave the boat up north until you have some time (two or three months, or so) to scout out moorages. You can slip the boat in downtown Baltimore on the waterfront, also in any of the marinas and moorages on rivers and creeks all the way down to Annapolis and beyond. You will be amazed ...

issues: engine stalling, neutral safety switch
There is a 15 amp reset switch in the metal box cover that holds the red plastic key (1980 F26). When I pushed the reset button, my ignition switch came back to life. It works like it should in the on position and for engine starting. I don't know what the condition was that required a reset -- will...

can get at least a couple of Sherwood models through NAPA parts (think they would be Sierra aftermarket parts). Unfortunately, will likely need the model number as even having the original in hand would probably not help at the counter -- unless there is a number on it somewhere that can be plugged ...

I think what's really bugging me is that I had similar issues with a '77 Chris Craft (also a 305), and after most of a long summer I finally found a heavily corroded wire harness plug-in connection down in the bilge next to the engine (also a 305, which is probably a coincidence). Rewiring the conne...

possible neutral safety switch issue
My cooling issues seem to be resolved with the t.stat and sender replaced. Coming out of the moorage at idle, the temp went up to about 170, but ran the boat (1980 F26, MerCruiser 288 MIE 305) at about 3200 rpms, then backed off to about 2800 which seemed more comfortable. The temp was fine througho...

curious about your earlier post -- What temps were you seeing when your engines seemed to be overheating? The closed systems run at higher temps than raw water systems, by design. If there really is an overheating issue, though, a place to start is probably the raw water pumps -- impellers may be ov...

Just an info follow-up. I opened up the t.stat cover, and found a unit in there (from the 90s, based on the stamped info). It was in the closed postion. I expected to find it stuck open, as the engine was running cool. I replaced it with another 140 degree unit, but didn't see any changes to engine ...
