failure to get rpms above 1500 is a concern. On the turbocharged mid-80s Mercedes diesels we've driven for years, it's sometimes necessary (OK, useful) to really wind them up and blow out the carbon and fuel that (as I understand it) can gum up the turbocharger for lack of use -- called an Italian t...

Think Sendure makes systems for a number of engine systems. The repair shop I described earlier fabricated an end cap and gasket for my Chris Craft exchanger, but it might be worth an attempt at fabricating a gasket yourself -- can get the thick rubber gasket material at an auto parts store such as ...

Not a repower, but wouldn't be surprised if the horn isn't functioning (if present). The hose on the right side in Torcan's pic is from the raw water pump, so I would think the switch/horn would be there to warn of failure in the raw water pumping system. That means to me it would function only with...

That's it, Torcan! Mine had a green striped wire to it. I put a pliers on the red portion as it was spinning with the rusted nut holding the lead to the switch. Unfortunately, that red tip covers a plastic end that shatters. The plastic cap apparently serves as an insulator for a wire that appears t...

Jamie -- I grounded the switch lead to the block as well as to the switch base (still intact) -- no alarm with the starter switch in the on position, or with the engine running. There was also no effect on the temp gauge, which is still working from the sender with the brown lead. If the switch in q...

Thanks for the input. I don't have a pic of the device/switch I broke (and nothing to take a picture of now), but it looks like the switch shown at the lower right of the Mercruiser catalogue page: http://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercury-mercruiser/catalog.html?http://www.marineengine.com/parts/me...

I've had a 1980 F26 for about a month, and have had some electrical gremlins. The temp. gauge suddenly stopped registering, so I figured I would start with the connection at the sender, thinking some clean up might fix it. That fix seems to have worked -- now shows a temp of 100 like it did before, ...

I made and used one of those flushing devices a few years ago, and it worked fine. Put a plastic hose fitting into a toilet plunger, get a handle long enough to hold it up to the intake (consider extension handles in the paint dept.), and it should work fine. Check the configuration of the intake to...

I'm guessing from your earlier post that you pulled the starter in the first place because it appeared to be spinning, but not turning the engine. I think I would want to insure that the starter is not the culprit before getting into engine repairs. It may be that the bendix gear is not operating pr...
