wooden hull maintenance

Hello: Got some good advice last year from this forum. Here's this year's first question: I notice that some planks? are separating a little. There isn't a gap, the boards just aren't touching in places. I think we should probably be cleaning those areas out and fixing them but not too sure what to ...

Well, whatever he used either varnish or cetol, there are countless layers on layers at this point. I can't imagine stripping it all. I will just use varnish on the brightwork I guess.

thanks again

Excellent info - thanks. If the previous owner used varnish would it be okay to now use Cetol? I don't know what he would have used.

What is the difference between cetol and varnish? Sorry, dumb question but "there's no dumb questions". : )

Just found another post where the guy put "with 4 coats of barrier epoxy paint and 2 anti-foul coats". Should we be putting barrier expoxy paint on first before the anti-fouling?

I thought the swim platform shouldn't be varnished - just the wood. Should it?

Thank you all for the info. Another question which may have been answered in the info provided but I haven't read it all yet - our hull in places has exposed wood in places. We plan on applying anti-fouling but should something else be applied before the anti-fouling?

wood rot

We have two small areas on our wooden Trojan transom that are punky as well as some seams cracking. We plan on having proper restoration for these problems but not for a year or two. I noticed a mention on another forum to PL400 instead of epoxy. Is it okay to use PL400 for these temporary repairs? ...

The interior is great. The couple we purchased it from had had all the work done. All the upholstery is new but other than that everything else is pretty much original. They owned the boat for 35 years. He loved the boat and only sold due to failing health. She was totally restored about 20 years ag...
