Re: The dreaded Hollow Keel - again

My F28 keel has a drain in it that is clearly not original. Someone prior to my ownership obviously drilled the keel and then plugged it with caulk and a coarse 3/8"screw with a square head. When I remove this "plug" and stick a screw driver into the hole water does run out. Before ne...

Re: F28 Exhaust Noise/fume

You make a valid point Larry, I looked up the factory photo of a new F28 and you are right the vents do alternate but the photo shows from bow to stern: exhaust, intake, exhaust, intake. I think the most logical is the point "prowlerfish" makes, the exhaust vents should be attached to vent pi...

Re: F28 Exhaust Noise/fume

Thanks for your thoughts on possible adverse consequences of submerging the exhausts, this has been on my mind. As for back pressure I made these so I could easily cut the extensions down as they are just epoxy reinforced with glass fibre over aluminum flex tubing. My thought was to cut it back an i...

Re: F28 Exhaust Noise/fume

Mike, I did not have to re-tune at idle and there is no difference in performance that I can notice.

Re: F28 Exhaust Noise/fume

Interesting that someone patented this years ago. thanks for the info Aaron. Others posted similar exhaust extensions on this forum a while back I just copied the idea. Attached are some close ups on the boat. The bottom of the extension is about 4" below the waterline with the boat at rest but...

F28 Exhaust Noise/fume

Last year I posted a question on the subject of exhaust noise and nuisance fumes we experienced on our F28. As pointed out in the replies my mufflers were probably shot and would need replacing to reduce the noise but that would not cure the fume issue on the rear deck. Oddly the noise was only an i...

Re: North Channel

Bob, This is one of the great destinations for boaters. We did it in our F28 in 2006 coming from Georgian Bay. There are some superb places to drop anchor, hike and generally explore. Suggest you get yourself a copy of the Ports Cruising Guide for "Georgian Bay, The North Channel & Lake Hur...

Re: Floscan

I am thinking of buying new Floscans for my F28 which has twin Chrysler 318's. Your data shows that cruising at the sweet spot can result in big fuel savings on the basis of miles/gallon. Given I average about 1mile/gallon I think the new Floscans could quickly pay for themselves! Thanks for posting...

If you are having trouble finding a local rebuilder for your transmission J Anthony Keats in Ontario do this work. They rebuilt a Paragon V drive for my F28 and I was totally satisfied.

I installed a new sniffer when I bought my F28 as the original was not working. It indeed was valuable and a good investment as it warned me of a gas leak with full tanks. I found a small leak where the fuel gauge sender enters the gas tank, fixed that with new sealant -problem gone. I also use my b...

Good suggestion to go to the Toronto Boat Show in January and check them all out, also they generally have good deals. I bought the Raymarine last show, mainly because the Canadian charts for the Upper Ottawa river, Rideau Canal, Georgian Bay etc. were included saving a few bucks. I am very happy wi...

Good idea Bob to use a diaphragm pump to get the bilge as dry as possible. I fitted one as a washdown pump on my Campion fishing/utility boat and it is self priming with a lift of at least 2 feet. I noted that Comodave mentioned his F32 has a hollow keel, can anyone tell me if the F28 also has a hol...

Enjoyed your pics, looks like Rideau country to me, we were through there this September and loved it. Laid up "Margaritaville" in Kingston for the winter, will pick her up next year and head back to Georgian Bay.
