Mine steers the same, either one engine or the other. Everything is symmetrical - rotation opposite dir. Steers well manually or when using auto-pilot. There is about 7 degree correction to go straight when engine out of gear or off.

Re: Wonderful non-parallel shafts
I cannot answer whether all Trojans are designed this way, but looking at mine, it definitely was designed this way for a purpose. I can see the proof in pictures taken in 2005 and 2006, when doing demolition and reconstruction. I did not think anything about it until the Bertram experience. I was t...

Re: A small project or what have I gotten into
What drove this - offshore fishing, or are you moving the dingy to the transom? Many boats your size have a transom door - you should be able to find the hinges and hardware fairly easy. Good luck!

Re: Wonderful non-parallel shafts
The moral of the story here might be - know your boat - and if you need to carry a drogue or two, buckets or whatever, it is fun to find out before you are stranded. The hourly towing rate here on southern Lake Michigan is $225/hour, portal to portal. Remember Murphy's Law! The friends Bertram lost ...

Wonderful non-parallel shafts
In 2012, had a cracked engine block on my 76, F30 with straight shafts and it steered well while only using the remaining engine. At a previous time, I was aboard a friends "Bertram 28 II", when one engine failed. We had a hard time getting back to his slip - it would only steer in circles...

I just noticed what you were referring to at the bottom - when I try it I get "The file is too big, maximum allowed size is 256 KB"
Thanks for the training!

Re: 30' 1976 hull refit to trawler
It looks like I cannot do it without downsizing - if you would like to try, go ahead. I tried to code one of the pictures with [Img] before and after the url and all I get is a box with an x in it.
Thanks

Re: 30' 1976 hull refit to trawler
I also like your boat - even though all I can see is the small picture, it appears you have it in great shape! Regarding the pictures,I thought I would add a picture now and then, since a picture is sometimes worth a thousand words. Maybe I do not understand the workings/rules of this forum in that ...

Re: 30' 1976 hull refit to trawler
prowlerfish, I am not sure what you are trying to do - if you see other photos on my Flickr account that would be interesting I would be happy to put them up on here. When I posted on this Trojan website these are public domain for viewing. As I look through my pictures, it brings a bunch of interes...

30' 1976 hull refit to trawler
Waukegan Harbor, Lake Michigan - July 2012, initial launch of newly converted 30' 1976 project boat. Happy to see this website is here! Why did I refit instead of restore? - I wanted to build a larger boat from plans, but found a beautiful Trojan hull with rotten teak deck, etc. I fell in love with ...
