Re: Soft flybridgd floor
I searched their site, kinda hokey, I thought.
Do the job right and get the rotted coring out and repair. You can search this forum or if you're on FB, there is a Trojan Boat Owners page. Bob Cushman here at Trojan Boats (Beacon) has a link to some good material to replace the balsa core. I have to do mine at some point...

Re: Soft flybridgd floor
Bob, how do you avoid the resin flowing down into the core? It seems like it would fill up and get very heavy.

Re: Soft flybridgd floor
We would use a micro filler to make the resin into a glue or paste.
You Do Not want to fill the Tricel with resin.
Then we would glue the Tricel to the bottom sheet of fiberglass and the top sheet of fiberglass.
This is very basic instructions. Please feel free to call us

Re: Soft flybridgd floor
There is also
Airex Boat Structural PVC Foam C70.75 | C70 42 x 24 x 1/2 Inch Green
About $50 for 2’ x 4’
This is 1” squares like the balsa core.
We have used this when replacing the balsa core in a soft spot on a hull ( not a Trojan)

Re: Soft flybridgd floor
Note:
Balsa core and foam board core material is generally in 1” squares or rectangles and available in standard sizes 1/2” 3/4” and 1”.
The thickness of the product you use for coring is important.
Generally on soft spot repairs the top piece of 1/4” fiberglass decking is removed and new core material is added.
*The same top piece of original 1/4 fiberglass decking once prepped is returned to its same position.
The depth of the material used to replace the balsa core need to be the same thickness 1/2”, 3/4”, 1” as what is removed or the top fiberglass will not fit back in place.
Trojan did not use any odd thickness of balsa core.
1/2”, 3/4”, and 1” were the thickness of the balsa core.

Re: Soft flybridgd floor
And a picture of wet balsa core.
Note: The black in this picture is balsa core that has begun to rot. The black balsa will turn to mud in it final stage of rot.
The lighter shades of black are wet balsa which will in time turn to black mud.
