POWER PANEL UPGRADE FOR 12m
I had one of my power meters die, so I had to upgrade to electronic ones (with polarity checker included). My polarity checkers were dead also, so I thought this was a decent solution for now. I got TAISS TA106B units and popped them into the panel (had to modify the holes just a bit).

Somewhat related, I had a whole bunch of mislabeled switches and dead/unused switches and breakers after 30 years. Kegan texted me a few weeks ago asking if I still had my 10m and I replied back yes! I’ve been sort of MIA the past 8 months or so as I have been restoring a car with my brother so boating took a back seat. Over the winter, I did manage to have these panels re-made. I totally redesigned the layout to fit my setup and preferences but kept the look pretty close to original. Every wire and connector are brand new and I upgraded to the shielded blade terminals instead of the exposed ones the factory used. I re-used the Airpax breakers but replaced a lot of the switches. I had two connectors fall off in my hand and one blade on my head switch was two waves from breaking so I definitely did this project at the right time.

The “stepped out” look for each of the side panels was not part of the original plan. Once I got to the reinstallation phase, there was no way/no how I could get that left hand panel to push back in because of all the wiring. It was just too much strain. The panels are now acrylic instead of aluminum so I wasn’t able to get that initial “push” back in like I could have with the aluminum. In hindsight, I should have specified much thicker acrylic, 1/4” instead of 1/8”. It’s fine now that they’re installed. I also made my splices behind the panel instead of re-wiring all the way back to the DC panel. For you guys that have mid cabins, that would have been hours cramped inside of that DC locker.
Now that I’ve re-wired my helm and AC/DC panels, I really don’t have any electrical projects left short of adding anything new or an occasional repair.

Re: POWER PANEL UPGRADE FOR 12m
You both did some nice up grades . Bob I see you have green/red polarity lights very nice . I did the kind of the same on my old F boat panel ( stone age) using Blue sea LEDs
'bluesrocker22 I still have the analog volt meters on my shore power , but changed my Genset meter to digital that also show amps .
Nice work Guys very nice up grades . I wish my panels were half as nice . Maybe I will post some photos of my old and ugly ones with the few minor upgrades

El L Sea ,
I like your solution better. VERY NICE that you added the amps in. Great job and clean looking.

That's the same meter I used for the Genset.

Yeah, I get that! Oil (in the engine) and a working head definitely take precedence. It was a lot of work but the layout is done if anyone needs it, I can point them to the place I had these made. The one on the right is unique to my boat, pretty sure I have the only mid cabin that came w/o a generator. Originally I had a home made panel made of steel! That held up great in salt water. Maybe there was a blank aluminum one from the factory.

My 89 also did not have a gen-set. The panel in its place is what seems like a piece of laminate (a beautiful cream color). I'll post a pic later.BobCT wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 4:41 pm Yeah, I get that! Oil (in the engine) and a working head definitely take precedence.
