1975 F32 Trojan Endless Love <3

Hi all.. I was excited and posted my pictures in the pictures thread before an introduction correcting that now

I have acquired a 1975 Trojan F32 this year and have been living aboard for a couple months now. I'm still in transition and paring down on my belongings. It's been an eye opener to all the excess "stuff" you collect simply because you have the space! Definitely will be searching for some storage tricks on here, and have a try at a few ideas of my own.

There is a lot of cosmetic work to be done on her but the bones are good - better than expected, so says my surveyor! I lucked out, apparently I do have some minor leaking when it rains, which I'm told is attributed to the hatches, so I've already bookmarked a thread on rebuilding hatches.. I'm not opposed to DIY stuff, I just lack the confidence.. I figure this one is small and straight-forward enough to start with

The previous owners have made some additions, such as the cabin windows, an A/C unit, new hot water tank and new flooring. They were far more mechanically advanced than I am so the engines have been well-kept - she runs great on the crazy waters of Georgian Bay Now we're down on Lake Ontario.

On the docket for me, I need to figure out the regular maintenance items and how often I need to do them and when those need to happen.

Other things I'm looking at:
-Finding / fixing leaks
-Fixing / replacing the canvas
-replace all cushions / fabrics
-overall wash / eventually wrap?
-refinishing teak all around
-figuring out how to cut down on the spiders
-anything pointed out to me that should have been obvious and shows my obvious newbie-ism

My is a 75 F32 as well. I live on mine all summer on Lake Simcoe and then return to Florida for the winter. Like you mine was in pretty rough shape when we picked it up. Have continued to work at most of the exterior. Re-routed the shore power, city water and cable TV to starboard side. New bow puppet (Teak) re-did the swim platform, Flybridge latter and other trim work. New exhaust, canvas and nonskid deck paint, complete boat compound twice and 2 coats of wax this year. Love my boat and it's getting better all the time. Going to tackle fiberglass repair next, many holes from old electronics, dings and scratches to repair.

As am I I figure it's my "house" and a "home inspection" has saved my butt before, so if for nothing but my sanity, I was hellbent on a survey.

Ooo I am loving all the photos of Trojans and all the ideas they give me - I love your bench seat! I can't wait to get my teak all cleaned up too, it looks amazing! I've also got the swim deck and bow puppet.

6 coats of CETOL and 3 + 3 Of CETOL GLOSS except where you would walk. Ladder, swim platform, bow pulpit and foot pads. New coat each year.

My 'wood finishes gallery' shows the kind of results you can get with different products. Swim platform and 'boarding strips' are Cetol (regular), as are boxes on the flybridge. Used it on my bridge ladder steps as well. Pulpit is Cetol Light with Cetol Gloss over top. Cockpit railing is an Interlux varnish (originally Goldspar Clear, now using Compass Clear as Goldspar Clear is discontinued), and ships wheel is Epifanes Woodfinish Gloss.

Cetol regular has more stain in it than Light, and some feel it has a bit of an orange cast that they don't like - I like it. Light is more transparent so its more 'natural' and you see grain more clearly, and any flaws. With either, you want at least 3-4 coats. The first couple will soak in to the teak, so you want to give it enough coats as a base to seal the wood and for new coats to just sit on top, and then add a couple coats to give it some depth.

Think I originally put 3 coats of Gloss over Lite on the pulpit. Again, don't use Gloss, or varnish for that point, on surfaces that people might walk on as it can be slippery when wet.

My experience has been a little different than Away's... I think I only needed about 4 coats of 'regular' or Light, and don't reapply annually. For most of my woodwork I just do a light sanding and touch up every 3-4 years. The boxes on the flybridge are not typically exposed to the elements, so I think I have only ever done them the one time.. about 18 years ago!

I keep the boat in Hamilton, so we are exposed to very similar environments.

Thank you, Away and captainmaniac! Yes, your PB link still works - the Goldspar (or now Compass), and the Cetol Light is about the range I'm hoping to achieve. There is bits of varnish still clinging to the railings at this time; my surveyor was none too impressed and told me in no uncertain terms NOT to refinish it like that. The boxes on the flybridge are in really rough shape. I'm not sure they've ever been protected from the elements, or even touched up in their life.

From what I am told it's the A/C vent - the A/C unit lives on the starboard side under the dinette so I'm skeptical? I haven't yet ventured down there to follow it back. I hope I can replace it with something more sleek; it's quite the eyesore.

Welcome aboard and congrats. I'm almost a year into refitting a 1976 Trojan f-32. Pretty much the same boat you have. I can tell from the water stains in the salon, starboard side that you need to remove the gutter, fix all the cracks behind it. This is the seam from the factory that joins the flybridge deck and the salon roof together. You will have exposed gaps that will need repaired with thickened epoxy. Clean the gutter down to raw aluminum and then re-bed with 3M5200 and you will have no leaks anymore. Sealing the hatches is as simple as cleaning the old caulk where the hatch frame and the deck meet and re-caulking it. Also the screws that hold the hatch lid to the deck need to be sealed. I used butyl tape and countersunk the existing screw holes to allow the tape to seal around the screws. My hatches stopped leaking after that. Check out my thread for some insight.

Thank you The water stains are driving me crazy - that's another project to replace all that ceiling stuff (headliner? not sure of the name). But I need the leaks controlled first so I will definitely be checking out your thread!

I have started cleaning up the rails and I'm now very aware of how I have no idea what colour teak actually is

That is were a engine room vent/blower should be . Its much larger so it likely still has that behind it and maybe a added vent for something else ? It would be interesting to see what's there .

Your Taft rails look like they have been neglected for about 20 years. Mine were not quite that bad. Tried the restoration products recommended. They did nothing. What's gonna work is (60 grit, 100 grit 150 grit then 220). Followed by several coats of CETAL as I mentioned previously.

I tried to look in to this yesterday but it ended up being built in to a box, in the storage walls in the salon. The box was fastened with a straight screwdriver, which I left in my car Is it supposed to be boxed up from the inside? The hoses (if that's what they are called) are really dirty, and torn in several places. Adding that to my list of things. They do run from under the engines, and from the A/C unit on the other side. So it seems that might be what is going on there. Will take pictures when I get it opened up.
