Fuel crossover

I have an 1985 Tri-cabin, single fuel tank under berth, it has a cross over between the 2 lines. Should the crossover be open or closed under normal operation?

Mine is open, because why not?

Thanks, mine is open also. I agree, I guess the only purpose for a crossover between 2 lines from same tank would be if one line got plugged or damaged.

Mine is closed for two reasons:

1) I know for sure how much fuel is being used by each engine.
2) If something gets into one tank, the other is still OK.

If #2 happens, I like to be able to get home!

Some of us have GFS-10 fuel flow sensors inline after the filters to measure fuel flow to each side.

They're integrated into the GPS, which can show MPG. I quickly disabled that feature.....

And some of us have Navico EP-10 sensors sitting on a shelf that would do a lot more good installed on the boat!

P-dogg, what is your fuel burn, just bought my Tri-cabin back in March, have had some issues with the engines dying, so I haven't had it out much.
Do you have 270 Crusader's?
(I do not have flow meters)

2.6 MPG at 6 kts.
0.6 MPG at 17 kts

Closed , with separate tanks . With single tanks it really wont mater 99% of the time . Only time it would be a issue is if the pick up got a air leak you would lose both engines , or if you lost a engine do to a fuel pump or cranked line the other engine could suck air . And I have seen that on a shared pick up ( engine and generator ) so closed is the way I would keep it .
