running a twin engine slower...

I wanted to throw this question out since there are so many smart boaters, trojan owners out there...

when i have my 2 318's running at absolute slowest speed (idle) my boat still goes 4-4.5 MPH... which i would like to get down to half that... (while still running bother engines, so steering is as precise as it can be)

Any creative ideas?!

Would start by double checking what your idle speed is and can it be reduced a bit. I have been able to get my 360s to idle around 650rpm in the past and get the speed down around 3, but then you are much more affected by any winds or currents. You could also try dropping your trim tabs and see if the extra drag slows you down at all.

I agree check the idle speed your moving fast for idle . Stock props ? And what is your idle speed ?

"Away" getting 400RPM is pretty good i think...
I am upgrading my 318's to new edlebrock carbs, and new ignition components, distributor, coils, etc... so I am hoping the engine will purr very nicely, and I can get them down from my 600-500 rpm which should help...

Just shut 1 engine down and live with the slower response from your rudders. This is only if you are not in a tight canal or waterway where you need full control that both engines running gives you.
