Bill,
You posted the tread â€œ1971 F31 generator questionâ€ Nov. 12,2008 asking about generators. The forum told you to only install a marine generator below deck, be very careful using a portable generator on the boat or dock. Exaust fumes can be deadly. Carrying gasoline for the generator is dangerous. Spilled fuel will settle in the bilge and is explosive. Most of the replies from the members were against the idea of using a portable generator on a boat.

You can use a portable generator on your boat, but donâ€™t recommend this foolish idea to other members. Itâ€™s a bad idea, it will always be a bad idea, and nothing you can ever say will ever make it a good one!

Bill I think Jerry perty much covered the anwser . and I can add they get very hot being air cooler

they also mentioned the opition of using an on deck portable, but I guessed you missed that one, cause apparently you dont agree, anyway, without getting into a discussion about it, you can go on using your onboard big bucks generator and I will use my economical carry on
there are at least a dozen or so of us at my marina and I dont think were doing anything wrong, but thanks for the suggestions,
I think I know how to be safe, but I respect your opinion, but obviously you dont mine,

Seems there are a lot of boaters on board with the Honda portables. As long as it's used with care (just like the gas outboards we all carry on board for our dinks), seems to be a very popular solution.

We don't run our dingy outboards on board do we ? like I said and I stand by it. Home gensets have no place on a boat ! Kind of like useing car carbs and alt and starters . But its your life I hope you run it on a swim platform and not on the deck .

Bill I do respect your opinion but on this I very stongly disagree ! also I did not miss "on-deck portable gen ", where do you put it when you run it ?

If a marine genset is too costly a inverter is a good choice or do with out like I had tofor years . I have a genset on this boat but is I did not would I spend th 6-8k to put one in ? NO. I would use a inverter for the frige and ice maker or do without . the a/c would wait untill I plug it in at a marina .
