Used Generator

Post by Geri »

We have an opportunity to buy a used and tuned 1985 Onan 6.5 KW generator, hours unknown but in good condition. Does anyone have an idea on what the average purchase and installation cost would be? Our Trojan had a generator and it was removed, so installation would not be from scratch.

Thanks for any thoughts on this....

thats a loaded question, you should check some of the older threads on generator questions,
I also considered buying a marine generator but when I checked the prices it was out of hand, so I went to a portable deck unit, The type of boating I do , dosent warrant the use of a generator for long periods of time,
but alot of the guys here almost bit my head off because of that, so I cannot rec one, but
at a price of 500 bucks, as opposed to 5 thousand bucks, it made sense to me, especially since the manufacturer (Honda) of the generator said it was approvoed for marine use , ( yes I called them on that one)
but like I said, I cant suggest that to other members,,,lol,
good luck with your generator, there is alot of info here in older threads

I have a 1980 6.5 Onan that needs a fuel pump that I'm selling for $100 bucks. Mine was sea water cooled (like the one you're buying probably was) and the block can't be far from rusted through. I would not pay more than $250 to get it installed. Really, I'd install it myself, but I'm not like most folks.
