F32 questions
I've absorbed as much as possible from the many posts here and a number of them many of them very useful. I do have a couple of specific questions, though.
I'm about to buy a 1975 F32. I've restored two Chris Crafts of similar size and this Trojan will be my last refurbishment/restoration project.
The seller is a widow, so I don't have an owner to answer questions. The boat will be surveyed and sea-trialed and I'm sure that will turn up concerns that I will have to deal with.
The foredeck has been replaced, eliminating one of Trojan's weak spots. The rest of the cabin & deck structure seems solid, but we'll let a surveyor take a good look at that.
The fuel tanks (2) are original and while not yet leaking, will have to be replaced. Specifically, how much cockpit deck area will have to be removed to pull the old tanks? This boat has a generator under the centerline cockpit hatch.
What was the original battery configuration? This boat seems to have one house battery and two starting batteries and an isolator (wired with cables much too small for that use). I have my own ideas about batteries but I'd like to know how the factory installed them, if possible.
The boat is powered by the original Chrysler 318s with 150 hours on them since rebuild. We'll check the exhaust manifolds and risers, obviously.
So, for right now, if you have any info on the fuel tanks or the battery configuration, I'd appreciate hearing it.

Far as the aft tanks or that manner the 2 fuel tanks the should be removable by pulling the soft patch " back deck " out. I know on my 91 f32 is how it is done. I am not sure if you have the removable fiberglass deck there. Also, the original " not the best" battery set up is forward of the eng comp next to each other. also, after 1983-84 trojan presented a extra 2 tank option. Those saddle tanks are forward outboard of the engine with the capacity of 49 gallons each giving the boat a total capacity of 220 gallons. Good luck & make sure you sound those stringers and bulkheads out for rot. Hopefully your surveyor will spend a lot of time in the bilges. You can also open up the for floor behind the v bearth and check those stringers

The aft deck should have a large removable deck area through which you can remove the tanks. I can't help with factory battery layout... for me that did not matter, I did mine to my specs. I have a standalone starting for each of the following, the generator, port engine, starboard engine along with a large house battery. All are in a long battery box on the centreline from genny to forward engine room bulkhead.
The two engine starting batteries have the Trojan crossover solenoid connection to allow for both to be used while starting one engine.

I didn't think the F32 had the optional fuel tanks in the rear, under the cockpit floor until a few years later. I know the '77 model year had a cut-out in the deck. I think the '75 has a wood floor...without the optional tanks, only the tanks in the engine room, outboard of the engines? Someone could correct me though.
The battery set-up is as mentioned, although I have seen them on a shelf, behind the engines as done so by an owner.

mine has 2 plastic tanks under the aft deck and the 2 saddles in the engine room...am i missing 2 tanks in the aft?

I was saying the optional fuel tanks for F32 are the saddle ones... may have not made that clear in my last post. The optional comment was in reference to Kevin's saddle tank statement on his F36.

Not me.. how I got it. That was the washdown pump which did not work anyway. There were some more too under the bridge console, they have all been changed out. Fuses added where they should be, like the battery charger (banks) which was also replaced!kevin babineau wrote:whats up with the wire nuts on that pump in the pic?
It was then surveyed for Insurance after the deck work and he would have jumped on that big time.
I had hardly used the boat at that time... just brought it across the river from Detroit and then trailered it up to Georgian Bay. Then within a few weeks she was out again for the repairs over the winter.
