F32 Flybridge Deck Extension

I would like to extend my flybridge deck over my aft deck, something similar to a Mainship Trawler flybridge.

Anyone have any thoughts, ideas, do's or don'ts with this type of project???

Difficult to do properly. If the extension is to be weight bearing, you'll need some substantial additional stucture to support the deck vertically and laterally since the standard flybridge support is already marginal.

The additional weight up high will also change the center of gravity and roll period of the boat. Depending on how much weight, this may or may not be a problem... you'd need a marine architect to evaluate that (not cheap).

I would keep it light Aluminum suports will help . are you using it for shade ? or so you can put more people up top ? If its for carrring People then you really have to worry about the center of gravety

Ok, this post is driving me crazy!!!!!!

I found this exact setup in on a F32 for sale on one of the yacht trader websites.....but for the past few weeks I have not been able to find it again so I can post it for all my friends on this forum.....can anyone help this crazy out and post the link..........???

There is one that exists,,no really..........

I'm going to conclude it is for shade, as any other answer I don't believe is doable for any respectable $$.
Here is what I did for rain protection so it does not splash in the open sliding door. Constructed from Starboard and stainless tubing.

MAC32 i know which one you are writing about. i too saw it and i like the design. she is an f32 that was for sale in the san diego area, or somewhere in southern california, i believe, last year. i actually emailed the broker and asked him about this modification and he said that she was built that way at the trojan factory. to the best of my knowledge, i do not remember this being any option. i know it was a modification at some point, and a very nice one at that. the pictures on the website clearly showed the extended hard top, with railings and canvas rail covers going all the way around and the hard top with extra seating above and access from the upper helm. the one thing that i liked the most was the sliding water proof hatch cover over the bridge ladder. i have tried for weeks to locate this but i too am at a loss.
perhaps someone out there can find the link. fear not, i have seen this too--- and really liked what i saw.

Yes, that is the one......So I am going crazy but not actually crazy.

I remember it even had those short beach style deck chairs on the top. It looked nice but it was not factory...

thats the one. i found this sometime last year and the broker said it sold for almost 45K. again, what i liked about it the most was the overall design....... it really stood out. now, how can we find her again? i'm at a total loss on that one.

For what it's worth, are you sure you're not confusing an F32 "express bridge" with an F32 salon bridge w/an extension?

As you can see, on the express bridge, the helm is full forward, giving the room further back behind...and from the photos, you can see the bridge which covers the open space of what would be the interior salon.

nope. not the express bridge version. believe me, that's the one thing that struck me was it was the standard f32, with enclosed salon and extended hard top above the aft deck with seating(deck chairs on them) and railings all the way around with black canvas covers. i wish i had downloaded the pics when i saw it (i thought i did) because it was an amazing site to see. not only did it have the extended hard top from the bridge over the back deck, but the aft deck was enclosed with a camper canvas cover too. for what it's worth, i did ask a fiberglass person at the boat yard near my marina if something like that is possible and he said that they do it all the time. they cut off the back part of the bridge top and mold a hard top to it making one complete unit. the supports are stainless steel frames that mold into the new 'deck' above. it's NOT an inexpensive modification, but it can be done. then again, almost anything can be done with enough money thrown at it.
