Interior wood care
On my "78" F-32 I have a wood trim around the hatches. Five years ago I noticed that they were starting to dry and discolor so I got a large enough Rubbermaid tub about 6" deep and propped it up to the headliner. I then sanded, washed, and bleached it to clean wood. I applied 3 coats of Sikkens and it turned out great, I won't need to do anything to it for many years. The one thing I did notice was that the finish was a little brighter than the rest of the interior. (The V-bunk hatch I didn't bleach but it was still a little brighter). Only my critical eyes notice the difference. A couple of years later I noticed that I had a few light and dark spots around, which had developed over the years from sun and water and just natural aging. I new that doing what I had done on the hatches would be more of an undertaking than I wanted so I got to thinking. I found a product that is made here in Michigan by a custom furniture maker and is available on the market called "DOOZY" It is a clear wood cleaner which dosen't have any chemical strippers or abrasive and cleans the natural wood without raising the grain or change its color. After cleaning with this I found a Minwax wood finish stain that matches my interior exactly(red oak#215). I started in a small area that needed color restored and applied it with a tack free rag with my finger to the lighter faded area till the color matched. When dry, I applied it to the whole area to make an even blend with the rag again. I've got to tell you guys that it turned out looking like brand new. It was so easy to do and to have such great results I resolved never to use Sikkens/Cetol on the interior again.
